Monday, April 16 marks the start of Earth Week, a week long celebration of our planet earth ending with Earth Day on Sunday, April 22. While we celebrate “Earth Day” every day at Quest Renewables by commuting to work on bicycles and using reusable water bottles (to name a couple), Earth Week is a great time to remind ourselves and others what we can do to help conserve our planet’s resources.

Earth Day was first celebrated in 1970, and that year 20 million people across the U.S. rallied in support of the conservation of planet earth. Earth Day eventually expanded to Earth Week, and a more comprehensive range of environmental issues were spotlighted. Earth Day now garners support from people around the world and from all political backgrounds.

Here are 3 Easy Things YOU can do to help the planet this week:

  1. Get Outside! Go for a walk, spend time gardening, play at a local park, or go for a hike in the woods to remind yourself and to teach others why protecting planet earth is important.
  2. Pick up trash. While outside, gather litter from your local community, from bodies of water, wildlife areas, trails and roadways.
  3. Start using reusable water bottles! The average American uses 167 water bottles a year, but only recycles 38. Using reusable water bottles keeps plastic ones out of landfills.

A final thing you can do to help support Earth Week is to share this blog. Sharing information during Earth Week keeps the conversation going about the importance of conservation, sustainability and other environmental issues important to you. Share this post on Facebook, Twitter, or via email to help support Earth Week!
